What is Christian counseling?
Keep an open mind - it's probably not what you think.
Christian counseling isn't about judgment.
It isn't about shoving the Bible down your throat.
It isn't about offering simplistic solutions to complicated personal problems.
Instead, it's about offering a safe place to talk about anything, whether it's faith-related or not. You don't have to talk about God when you visit Dr. Forrest. In fact, you don't even have to be a Christian to benefit from Dr. Forrest's holistic counseling technique.
“Lots of people who aren't Christian come to see me professionally,” she says. “They come from all walks of life, and when they step into my office, my goal isn't to convert them or shame them. No matter who my clients are, my only goal is to get them talking about what's bothering them. If that's faith-related, we can include that in our sessions. And if it's not, then we address the problem from whichever angle makes the most sense.”
For those clients who are looking for a more faith-centered experience, Dr. Forrest can help them explore and confront, through God, the issues and the people standing in the way of making a positive change. She's had tremendous success helping her clients realize how spiritual growth – or the lack of it – can affect both personal and professional growth and achievement.
“Personally, I couldn't get through life without faith,” she says. “My faith has seen me through my own tragedies and low points, and I think it's important to help others draw upon their own faith to effect positive change in their own lives.
“When something's not working, I help people transition to a Plan B – whether they're Christians or not,” she adds.
